The Absentee Shawnee Tribe consists of two bands living in two distinct communities in Oklahoma.  The Big Jim Band occupies a community in Cleveland County, while the White Turkey Band is located in nearby Pottawatomie County, near the city of Shawnee.  The two communities, combined, make up a reservation of slightly over 12,000 acres.  The tribe’s ancestral homeland is in present-day Ohio and Kentucky.
